Zen and the Art of Driving: Chapter 3

Being One with the Turn

When in one's car, they must not muse too terribly on the turns of the road, lest they become truly difficult to drive. Instead, they must feel the turn before it starts- as we learned in chapter one, you are in control of the car.

You are in control of the car.

We now add this to your mantra. Say it. Say:
I am one with the turn. It feels me flowing with it like water. As the wind buffets my car, I am guided by this turn- I guiding this turn.

There now, was that so hard?

Next chapter- You and reversing.

Starting Over is Like You Confessing All Your Sins

Okay, I had my moment of silence for Gametime a little over a month ago, and the demo EP for two of the members, The great Caleb "C-dogg" Blacksher, Kyle Devlin is up on Purevolume. To tell you the truth, it blew me away- you know, I think these guys have a chance after all- even without Gabe and Nick Pick.

You can check out Stark Raving's new songs on Purevolume, and be sure to tell me if I'm completely out of my mind. Then again, that might be the sort of captive audience they're looking for.

Their website can be found here, but more will be up fairly soon.

And remember! You heard them here first!

I'm totally freaked...

Right, while looking for some articles online on the (apparently) fictional art of Necromancy, I stumbled across this quote:

"We don't kill the most,
We don't die the least,
But dammit, we have the most fun!"

Each time I saw it, it was marked as a passage from someone different. I know that phrases get around, but this one was just a little bit too out there to pass up.

(And thus, I thoughoughly declare all Halloweenish articles over until roughly next September. Beware the Autumn People, kiddies!)

The Mysteries of Harris Burdick

Has anybody else seen this book?

For ten years I have searched the children's departments, looking for the book with fourteen mysterious pictures, each with a title and a caption. No story within except for the introduction, in which Chris Van Allsburg says that he found these pictures, with caption and title, from a recently deceased freind-of-a-freind.

Who knows why I was destined to pick it up, and whether or not it truly belonged in the juvenile fiction- but it was there.

This image has stuck with me over the years. If nothing kept me looking for it, it was the picture of a man trying to squash a lump of- of something shifting, creating chaos under the rug. I remember reading the caption and laughing out loud.

You know, I'm glad that I checked Van Allsburg's list of works. Jumanji was spoiled as a movie, but Polar Express- the promise that it shows... I almost can't wait to see it.

What, you didn't think I'd miss out on a CGI Tom Hanks playing more roles than you can count on one hand, did you?
